Meet the Board
Helping others and honoring the military have always been two of my passions. When the opportunity to do both arose, it was a no-brainer for me. I started Helping Heroes NEPA with the goal of helping veterans and first responders receive the help that they need to lead a successful life. I look forward to planning events such as our annual Helping Hometown Heroes 5K and am always looking for additional ways to raise funds and awareness for our local heroes.
I enjoy spending time with my husband, Mike, our son, Landon, a dog, and a cat, as well as with my extended family and friends. My favorite ways to spend my free time is being outside. I enjoy biking, running, hiking, and gardening. I also love planning and executing events, such as 5K races.
I had originally met Bridget when she worked with my husband for several years in retail. In 2015, I started running, which I had not done since I was a high school student. I have run many 5Ks around the area and began seeing Bridget at several races. Being inspired by her drive, I offered help if she needed at races she was working. After some conversation about her new venture, I offered help if she needed any and was thrilled when she asked if I would be interested in serving on the committee for Helping Heroes NEPA.
I have been married for 35 years and my husband and I have four grown sons. One of our sons served in the Army for 4.5 years, nine months of his service in Afghanistan. Being the mom of a veteran makes the mission of Helping Heroes NEPA even more personal for me.
I come from a family that has a strong military background and therefore have a passion for honoring all service members past and present. I love serving the community and have helped many organizations with fundraisers and volunteer work. When I was presented with the opportunity to work on putting on a 5k to honor and support local veterans, I was all in. After a successful event, we decided it would be in our best interest to become an actual organization. I enjoy working with our committee to bring together our community to honor our hometown heroes and look forward to all that the future holds.
A little bit more about me is that I live in Moscow with my husband. Our family is our world and we love spending time with them. We have three grown children and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. I also enjoy gardening and golfing.
Growing up, I recall always asking my dad about his time spent in Vietnam as a Seabee. He would show me on a map, all of the places he had traveled to and always joking that he was a Navy soldier that never stepped on a ship. I mostly remember the story of how he was treated when he returned and I knew early on in my own life that we needed to do better and needed to change how we treated the men and women that fight for our freedoms. When the opportunity was presented to become part of Helping Heroes NEPA, I never had a doubt that this was something I wanted to be a part of. Along side many of the other board members, we held a successful first 5k in May of 2019 and I can’t wait to see where this journey will take us. I am a wife of 23 years to Lew, we have two daughters Peighton and Alyvia and I am a Hospice nurse. I enjoy spending time outdoors with family and friends, running, hiking and doing yoga.
